Forget the Charts, Trump Is the Market Mover Now
For the past few days, KOSPI’s crash and rebound was blamed for pulling PHLX and NASDAQ around. Today the report asks directly who is the market mover, and answers with one name, Donald Trump.
PHLX and KOSPI actually tracked each other almost exactly over the past year, PHLX up 120.10% and KOSPI up 122.91%, both peaking within days of each other in June. PHLX has already clawed back above its own Bear Market line near 11,686, while KOSPI is still stuck under its neckline. Meanwhile the Iran ceasefire MOU has now been broken for 12 straight days, with the US carrying out its 12th consecutive night of strikes.
Trump’s stated strategy is now blunt: for every tanker attacked in the Hormuz Strait, he bombs an Iranian bridge, aiming to strangle Iran’s economy since 90% of its military hardware is destroyed but the remaining mobile, hide-and-shoot 10% cannot be fully eliminated. Congress just passed a $95 billion budget mostly funding the Pentagon’s Iran campaign, with a slice earmarked for Trump’s midterm push on voter registration.
The bigger prize sitting under all of this is who actually controls the Hormuz Strait once the fighting stops, Iran charging tolls or the US enforcing free passage under the postwar High Seas Convention, because that answer decides whether oil settles back down or stays pinned over $100.
Stop watching Korea’s ETF and start watching Trump’s next strike. His decisions, not any chart pattern, are setting the price of oil and the market’s mood right now.
